Interesting facts about me

Been fishing since the age of 5 and a fly fisherman from the age of 12.

Like to think of myself as an all round angler, but my first love is wild brown trout with a cane rod.

    Phillip,
Thanks for your tip about using Google to retrieve Dermot Wilson's obituary.
I have a 6'9" Wallop Brook that I treasure and keep a lookout for Constable rods.
I came across one for sale on a dealer's website, see:

The dealer is based on the Frome in Dorset so you might be able to see the actual rod before buying.
    Best wishes
    Paul

Thanks Paul. I will see what they want for the rod. Seems the only one on the site without a price. I will contact them next week. They are nice rods and I have heard the 6'9" is on of the nicest. I recently bought a mint 8' 3" Wilson international. A really nice casting rod from Dermot wilson's stable. One you don't see much. I see that you are a casting instructor. Not many that I know seem that interested in cane rods. I love my carbon rods for stillwater, salmon and even big rivers, but for medium rivers and streams cane is wonderful. I have had a great season so far down here. Caught a 2.5 lb wild brown on the upper usk and 1.5 lb brown fron the Irfon, both on my 7' 9" five weight cane rod (Homer Jennings)Both fish on the duo method, big one on the nymph and smaller on the dry fly. I find cane great for playing fish on light tippets. Theres no doubt that over 8' cane starts to be less desirable to use. The problem in the uk is that few people have ever used a good cane rod. I take it you fish your constable on some of your local streams. Let me know if you are down in this neck of the woods. I can get you on The monnow or pointr you in the right direction on The wye and usk foundation waters. Regards Phil
